Mediation

What a "user friendly" tool to resolving conflict!   It may not initially feel that way when you are "ordered" or required to go to mediation prior to a hearing in your particular court, but mediation works.

Generally, the parties, through their respective counsel, agree to a mediator.  A mediator is the "neutral" third party who will assist in the resolution of the case.  If the parties cannot agree to a mediator, the court will appoint one.

It is important that both of the parties feel comfortable with the mediator and the process.

It is important that the parties and their counsel come prepared to settle the case.

Mediation is a confidential and creative process.  Keep an open mind.  Realize that the chances are excellent that you will resolve your issues and settle your case.  It is hard work, but at the end of the day, if all issues are resolved, you will be done. Your case will be settled and you will get to go on with your life.
